About Us
In tiny Jeffersonville, NY, in September 1913, seven distinguished members of the
predominantly German-American community met to establish a new commercial bank. By the
following January, the new bank opened its doors for business in a building constructed at a
cost somewhat less than $7,800.00. Seventy-five area residents would show up that first
Monday to open accounts and the bank would take in $10,000.00. The period from 1913 into
the sixties was one of steady growth. Through the depression years the bank remained
stable. During this time, the Chairman of the Board served as Bank President. The fact
that only six men have ever filled this position over a ninety four year period can be
attributed to the stability of Jeff Bank. In all this time, there have only been three
men who held the office of Secretary to the Board. In 1962 there were 11 local banks in
Sullivan County. Today, there are two. In 1967, the first Branch was opened in
Eldred, NY. A desire to remain a local bank with particular concern about the local
communities and a pledge to serve "everybody" with a full line of financial services led to
the slogan which is synonymous with The First National Bank of Jeffersonville still today,
"the Everybody Bank". A Burroughs computer was purchased in 1984 and housed in the new
Operations Center behind the main office. In 1985 Liberty and Loch Sheldrake offices
were opened. As the nineties began, the Monticello office was added. In his 1992
year-end message the Chairman of the Board of Directors noted that "despite a distressed local
economy the bank had continued to prosper by providing low cost community bank services to
borrowers and depositors and keeping its focus on small business, municipal and individual
customers".
In 1994 Raymond Walter was named President and during 1995 three new branches opened in
supermarkets in Narrowsburg, Callicoon and Livingston Manor. By spring of 2000, a ninth
branch had opened inside the Monticello Wal*Mart store and a tenth branch in the IGA
Supermarket in Wurtsboro.
Always seeking to increase and improve our level of service to a growing customer base,
On-Line Banking and Bill Pay were introduced on our website at
www.jeffbank.com. We
look forward to the new optimism being exhibited in Sullivan County and continue to consider
opportunities to expand services while striving to improve upon all facets of operation.
